Auraceli A. Maldonado, 24, of Irvington, was charged with first-degree armed robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said in a joint release on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
The charges stem from an armed robbery and shooting at the Roxbury Motel on Route 46 on Wednesday, Oct. 18, that cost Selwyn Torres, 36, his left leg, Daily Voice reported. More than $3,800 had been raised on a GoFundMe for Torres, a father of six, as of Tuesday, Dec. 5.
The night of the shooting, surveillance footage captured a man and woman exiting a Honda Accord with New York registration in the motel parking lot. Maldonado was allegedly armed with an AR-style rifle as the pair robbed Torres, shot him during a struggle, and fled.
Detectives say Maldonado was found to be the registered owner of the Honda Accord, which was seen heading through East Hanover shortly after the shooting. She was found the detained in Middleburg, Florida, on Thursday, Nov. 2 and extradited to New Jersey before being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility as per the Criminal Justice Reform Act.
The male suspect remains at large. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200 or the Roxbury Police Department at 973-448-2100. Anonymous tips can be made through Morris County Crimestoppers at 973-COP-CALL or copcall.org.
