Iron in Remnant: From the Ashes is going to be your primary crafting material that is used to upgrade standard weapons and armor. You’ll encounter iron from the very beginning of the game, but you’ll soon find out that you need better types of iron to do more upgrades to your equipment.
This guide will explain the different iron types in Remnant: From the Ashes and where to get them.
Standard Iron
Standard Iron will be found from the very beginning of Remnant: From the Ashes. You will encounter this material when you kill enemies and search chests near the beginning of the game. All the way up to your first few boss encounters you will be dealing with standard iron. This iron type can be used at the Rigs NPC in Ward 13 to upgrade your weapons and gear once you’ve reached a certain point in the game. Iron can also be purchased from the NPC near the basement stairs in Ward 13.
Forged Iron
After you first few upgrades to your weapons or equipment you’ll find that you can no longer use standard iron to upgrade that equipment any further. You’ll need Forged Iron if you want to improve these weapons further. Forged Iron will once again be found out in the world. Iron can be found from enemy drops, in treasure chests, and in hidden spots on the map. Forged Iron can also be purchased from the NPC near the basement stairs in Ward 13.
Galvanized Iron
Galvanized Iron will begin dropping towards the back-end of the game and will let you make upgrades to your weapons and equipment as well. Galvanized Iron can be found through killing enemies, searching treasure chests, and looking for hidden items or area in the map. Galvanized Iron can also be purchased from the NPC near the basement stairs in Ward 13.
Hardened Iron
It’s worth noting that if you return to Ward 13 to make upgrades and you don’t have enough iron, you can purchase some from the vendor in the area. Head towards the basement stairs and you’ll find an NPC that is willing to sell you different types of iron and Lumenite Crystals. This vendor won’t have all types of iron right away. She seems to have them once you’ve encountered them out in the world. The types of iron that you find seem to be tied to how far you have progressed in the game.
