BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County say a Chestnut Ridge school official is behind bars after he reportedly failed to properly report sexual assault allegations involving a student.
Troopers say in February, they received numerous complaints that a 12-year-old male student had been repeatedly sexually assaulting other students on one of the buses.
According to the affidavit, troopers learned that the school had first been notified of the allegations in November but failed to properly report them to ChildLine.
Police say the middle school's principal and vice principal were reportedly both involved in the initial investigation.
Troopers say Vice Principal Patrick Isgan reported that he reviewed surveillance footage from the bus but concluded that no inappropriate acts had occurred.
Investigators say in February, the school met with the 12-year-old student, as well as his parents, at which time the boy reportedly admitted to the allegations.
Troopers say the school then re-reviewed the surveillance footage and claimed that it appeared to show the student inappropriately touching a 6-year-old boy.
Investigators say school officials then suspended the 12-year-old student and removed him from school transportation.
Authorities say when troopers reviewed the surveillance footage, it appeared to show the 12-year-old student performing sex acts on the 6-year-old boy.
Troopers say in total, six students, some as young as 5 and 6 years old, reported allegations of sexual assault and harassment against the 12-year-old.
In a statement to 6 News, the Chestnut Ridge School District provided the following response to the allegations.
The School District is aware that a member of its staff has been arrested pending charges being brought forth. The District takes these types of matters very seriously and will continue to cooperate with the appropriate authorities pursuant to their investigation. At this time, no additional comment will be made as this is both an ongoing investigation as well as a personnel matter.According to online court records, Isgan was arraigned Friday on dozens of charges related to failure to report and child endangerment.
He is being held at the Bedford County Jail on $1 million bail.
