A Maryland Parole and Probation agent was found dead inside the home of a sex offender Friday night while on duty, according to police.

On Friday, Montgomery County Police Department officers responded to the 2800 block of Terrace Drive around 5:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check on a parole officer who had not reported back to work while he was on duty.

Officials said the parole officer, later identified as 33-year-old Davis Martinez, was conducting a welfare check on the resident of the home, 54-year-old Emanuel Edward Sewell, who is a registered sex offender. But Martinez never returned to work.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found Martinez's state-issued vehicle parked outside the apartment building. Inside the residence, Martinez's body was found, police said. Sewell was not at the apartment and has not been found. He took Martinez's police badge with him, police said.

The medical examiner found that Martinez suffered multiple injuries, a blunt force trauma to the head, and ruled the case as a homicide, said Chief Marcus Jones during a press conference on Saturday.

A warrant is out for Sewell's arrest. He is charged with second-degree murder. Police said he may be armed and considered dangerous.

Sewell may be driving a gray 2017 Hyundai Elantra with Maryland license plate 93661HT.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Emanuel Edward Sewell is urged to call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 or visit the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, MD website.
