New Owner Of Greenwich Bicycle Store Has Long Passion For Sport

DeLio raced bikes as an amateur for five years, and worked with former owner Ken Adler for the past 15. He brings that experience to his customers with bikes for everyone from beginners to competitive athletes.

“I love working with my hands,’’ said DeLio, who is also an accomplished chef. “My main objective is to focus on the customer. I fix all the bikes, clean them and get the right fit for the rider. Service is what’s going to set me apart from other bike shops. And I get the bikes that I want to represent.”

Even as a teenager, DeLio had a passion for bike mechanics. “My dad would buy me a bike, and I had to put it together myself,’’ DeLio said. “That’s the way I was brought up. If I had three bikes, I made a better bike. I was always drawn to the mechanics of the bike, and that’s still true today. There are so many new things – electronic shifting, hydraulic brakes, and gears on the front and back – it’s constantly progressing. Every year they have something new.”

DeLio carried his passion for bikes to racing. He reached Category 2, which is just two steps away from becoming a professional. “My back was really bad, I had six herniated discs,’’ DeLio said. “That’s when I stopped racing and started doing this full-time.”

One aspect of cycling some shoppers overlook is fitting. DeLio offers custom fitting for every bike sold at the store. DeLio and his team fit riders with the Body Scanning CRM system.

“Everything has to be perfect,’’ DeLio said. “I give the same attention to detail for someone that is purchasing a bike for a couple hundred dollars to those that are spending thousands of dollars. They all get the same amount of care and service.”

River Bicycles is the exclusive dealer for Litespeed, a United States manufacturer known for its titanium bicycles. The business moved 17 Glenville St. last summer, and DeLio is enjoying his added responsibilities.

“The industry itself is what attracts me to it,’’ DeLio said. “Everyone is so helpful. It’s a good career and great industry to be a part of. Just being involved in it makes it exciting to come to work every day.”
