The Nardecchia Spay and Neuter Fund helps low income people get their animals or strays spayed and neutered in Cambria, Somerset, and Blair county.

They service between 1500 and 2000 animals every year for several years now.

Fundraising is a crucial part of their ability to continue to provide services and that’s why they had over 40 vendors in the galleria today as well as a basket raffle and even some kitties that are ready to be adopted.

Organizers emphasize the importance of what they do.

“People don’t realize how many animals are killed each year because there’s no homes," said Ruth Luther, treasurer of the Nardecchia Spay and Neuter Fund. "The shelters are packed. The only way to combat that is spaying and neutering. One female cat and her offspring in seven years can make four hundred and twenty thousand cats. One dog and her offspring in six years can make sixty thousand dogs. There’s millions of them put down every year. So, the answer is to spay and neuter."

One of the cats was adopted by Emily Karl who explains why it's important to adopt animals.

“Definitely to keep them off the streets and give them a safe place that they can grow," said Karl. "They’re great animals to love and just to take care of.”
