An Ohio man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for breaking into a New York home in 2022. He was subsequently married by the same judge who handed down his sentence.

Anthony Santiago was charged with burglary in the first degree and sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison by Judge Melina McGuinnigle.

In May 2022, Santiago, then 33, of Cleveland, drove a vehicle to a home in North Syracuse to sell a car. Investigators said while Santiago was at the home, he noticed there was a substantial amount of marijuana inside the home.

Santiago then discussed his findings with two friends, 18-year-old Malik Shabazz and 31-year-old Andres Arzola-Torrewho, who also lived in Cleveland. They then decided to go back about a month later to rob them.

On June 27, 2022, the three suspects conducted the robbery of the home. They reportedly pistol-whipped an adult man and woman inside the home where four children were also residing. The suspects were accused of threatening the children but did not harm them.

At the time of Santiago's arrest, he had three prior felony convictions for assault in Ohio.

After Santiago's sentencing Friday, McGuinnigle performed a wedding ceremony for Santiago and his fiancée Victoria.
