Somerset County, PA — It was a horrifying realization to friends and family of Johnson. State police say they found his body “partially” under the door of this barn on Charles Street in shade township. Now loved ones are speaking out.
“I knew him since he was a kid. We kind of grew up together.” says longtime friend of Cliff Johnson, Rick Lohr. Him and others say they are remembering who he was as a person.
“He was a great person. He wasn’t one that would get in the middle of confrontations. He was just happy, go lucky. He Had a gritty type smile. He was always friendly, when I'd be out in the yard, he’d talk to me.” says Lohr.
Family member, Mary Weigle says “He has the biggest heart. He’d do anything for anybody. Any of his equipment, if someone needed it, he would give it to them. Out here, we have his dozer. It’s been here for like 3 years and he says I know where it’s at. Just leave it there.”
People who knew Johnson say his uncle had passed away recently, but say they believe Johnson understood the circumstances. They say Johnson kept himself busy with his own trucking company. Family members note he was taking an ownership dispute for the farm he was murdered at to court, but say he didn't want to fight about it.
After Johnson's death, over 130 others, including Lohr, have taken to a Facebook group named ‘Justice for Cliff Johnson’ sending a clear and strong message. “We have to get justice for him. We have to.” says Weigle.
Not only friends and family are being affected by this loss, but he also had a dog named ‘Festus’ that is now being taken care of by others. They say he is doing well, and they’re building a pen for Festus to stay in.
