Starting Temtem are the first creatures you’ll get to use in Temtem. There’s three of them to choose from – Crystle, Smazee and Houchic – each with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. All of them are good, but not every one will fit your play style. It’s an important choice, since you’ll spend a whole lot of time with your starter Temtem. If you’re having trouble choosing, this guide will help you pick the best starting Temtem.
Which starting Temtem to choose?
The answer to this question depends on what you’re after. Crystle is a crystal type Temtem, strong against electric and mental types, weak against fire and earth. It has well rounded stats, and is probably the safest choice if you’re not sure what you want out of life. At level 35, it evolves into Sherald. The Rested trait makes it do 25% more damage on the first two turns of each battle. The Amphibian trait increases its speed when attacked by a water type.

Smazee is geared more towards offensive players – he has lower defense but higher attack. At level 34, it evolves into Baboong. The Fever Rush trait allows it to increase its attack whenever it gets a status condition.
Houchic is a mental type Temtem. It’s good against neutral and melee types, but it’s bad against crystal. This one’s the weakest in the beginning, but it can grow into a powerful ally. At level 34, it’ll evolve into Tental. The Soft Touch trait allows it to attack sleeping targets without waking them. The Mental Alliance trait increases its attack if another ally is also mental.
No matter which one you choose, you’ll be able to catch the other two later on in the game, but all of them are relatively rare, and it might take you a while to reach the areas where they show up.
